NEW
YORK STATE QUALIFYING INVITATIONAL COMPETITIONS
New York State
Qualification Invitational Information
 | From the below Board
Approved Competitions any NYS Gymnasts may qualify directly into their
respective State Championship without qualifying through a sectional competition.
|
 | Any NYS gymnast
who scores the State Championship qualification score at these designated competitions,
even if it is there first competition of the season, automatically qualifies
to their respective State Championship.
History: A number of years ago the State Chair realized that the
majority of New York State athletes went to "Invitational Competitions". The
State Chair decided to experiment with a "State Qualifying Invitational Meet".
A designated competition that would reduce the number of competitions the
athletes had to attend to qualify to the State Championship by allowing this
singular meet a "State Qualification Status". This status eliminated the
need
for gymnasts to go to a local or sectional competitions. It would also free up
the Coach for more training time vs. competition time because at a State
Qualifying Invitational a Coach could bring his entire team on all levels;
sectionals were pretty much level specific. With this type of Qualification
structure the gymnasts parents would save up two a minimum of two meet fees
and travel expenses.
The "I Love New York Cup" was the first such "State Qualifying Invitational"
and in the second year, the criteria for being designated a "State Qualifier"
was that the competition would be held in an outside facility. As the State
Qualification Invitational Competitions grew in number, the number of
sectional competitions decreased. The State of New York, ran 36 sectionals per
year (3 for each level, upstate and downstate)! We now run about 6-8
sectionals a year.
Next, the State Director received requests from Host Clubs
who ran Invitational Competitions in their own gyms to become "State
Qualifying Invitational Competitions". The criteria then became, if the host
club could prove to the State Chair that their in-house "State Qualifying
Invitational" provided a benefit to the gymnastics community in their area
permission was granted. The goal of this office is provide service to its
members and a large number of members e-mailed the State Chair on the Host
Clubs behalf.
Not every State Qualifying Invitational pays for every gymnast
in their
competition and some do not pay any fees. This is at the discretion
of the State Director based on financial need of the State. New York State partners with
the Level 3 "Competition for Fun" Host Club. The sport is changing and this State has always been a leader in
doing what is best for our athletes, their parents, coaches, club owners and
officials.
All of the New York State Qualifying Host Clubs and Directors do a GREAT job
with their respective competitions. They are providing a great service to our
gymnastics community. Thank you.
