USAG New York State J.O. Age Divisions

Age Determination. Before we get into what the age divisions are for each level we first must understand the rule regarding age determination.

bulletThe gymnast's age for the current competition season that runs from July 31st to August 1st the following year is determined by the date of the final day of competition at the culminating championship meet for that level.
bulletFor Levels 4-5-6-7, the State Championship or Team Cup
bulletFor Level 8, the Regional Championship
bulletFor Levels 9 & 10 it is the gymnasts date of birth designated by  USAG National Office that is determined after the State Championship. Prior to the State Championship the State Chair, State Qualifying Hosts and Local Competitive Hosts will create their own age divisions based on the number of participating athletes in their respective competitions.
bulletLevel 4-5-6- & 7 Gymnasts must compete in the same age division for the entire USAG competitive season in the respective level that they are competing in. If they change levels within the season, they must adhere to the age divisions of the new level.

Minimum Age. There is a minimum age that a gymnast can compete and it is stated in the age division breakdown below. This rule is an exception to Age Determination because even if a gymnast reaches the minimum age for her level by the date of the Championship Meet, she is not eligible to compete in qualifying meets until she has had her birthday and is currently at the minimum age.
